Etsy Support Is Coming to TransactionMerge

TransactionMerge started as an eBay-to-FreeAgent tool. We're extending it to Etsy next — and we'd rather tell you honestly where that stands than oversell it.

What's already live

The Etsy connection itself works today:

• Secure OAuth sign-in via Etsy's own login — we never see your password, and access is read-only.
• A dedicated FreeAgent holding account setup, exactly like the eBay flow — pick or create the account your Etsy activity will post into.
• Category mapping, so once syncing is switched on, sales, fees, and refunds land in the right places in your chart of accounts.

Why we're not rushing the last step

Etsy's API doesn't document what its transaction records actually mean. There's no official list of transaction types, and no test environment to check our assumptions against before going live. Guessing here is the wrong trade: get one transaction type wrong and it posts to the wrong place in your books, silently, which is worse than not syncing at all.

So instead of guessing, the sync engine is built to only ever act on transaction types it has explicitly confirmed against a real shop's data — anything unfamiliar gets set aside rather than posted, every time. It's a deliberately cautious approach, and it means new sellers connecting now are helping us get it right rather than getting fully automated books from day one.

What this means if you connect now

• Your Etsy shop connects and stays connected — nothing breaks.
• Setup (holding account, categories) works exactly as described above.
• Automated posting to FreeAgent will switch on for your account once we've confirmed it against real transaction data — no reconnect or re-setup needed on your end when it does.
